6. Claude Humphrey

With the 3rd overall pick in the 1968 NFL Draft, the Falcons selected defensive end Claude Humphrey. He proved to be well worth such a high pick as he recorded 126 sacks in 171 games and garnered six pro bowl selections.

Unfortunately the Falcons never amounted to much during his decade with the team, but he has since been selected as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

5. Deion Sanders

With the 5th overall pick in the 1989 NFL Draft the Falcons selected “neon Deion” out of Florida State. He put the Falcons on the map in the late 80s, and was a key member of the 1991 team that won the franchise’s first playoff game. In all, he spent five years with the Falcons.

Deion was Atlanta sports in the early 1990s. He was traded to the Braves in 1991 and played on three straight playoff teams including two World Series. In 2994 he was traded away in baseball, and he signed a free agent contract with the 49ers in football. Sanders went on to be elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
