Three UGA Defensive Players Primed For A Big 2015

In 2015, the UGA football team will be entering its second season under defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt.  Coach Pruitt in year one completely transformed Georgia’s secondary.  From giving up pretty much a 100 yard touchdown pass against Nebraska in the Gator Bowl in 2013 to not allowing a 40 yard completion all season, I can’t wait to see what Coach Pruitt has in store for this year’s Dawgs defense.  Here are three Dawgs on the defensive side of the ball primed for a big season in 2015.

More from UGA Football

LB Lorenzo Carter

Carter was the Dawgs most prized recruit in 2014.  The pass rusher starred at Norcross High School in Gwinnett County.  His quick first step, powerful strike, and lateral quickness allows Coach Pruitt to play Carter all over the front seven for the Dawgs.  While UGA already has two outstanding pass rushers in Leonard Floyd and Jordan Jenkins, what makes Carter so special is that he can play inside and up on the line.  Carter will be an important part of how the Dawgs’ edge rushers terrorize SEC quarterbacks in 2015.

Sanders was Coach Pruitt’s first recruit upon coming to Athens from Tallahassee.  The defensive back out of Tucker came in and contributed right away in Pruitt’s revamped secondary.  Sanders’ ball-hawking skills make him a threat to intercept opposing QB’s errant throws.  I just loved how hard this guy worked last year, commanding a starting role on UGA’s defense right away.  Now that Senior leader Damian Swann is now on the New Orleans Saints, I expect Sanders and Quincy Mauger to lead the Georgia Bulldogs’ defensive back field in 2015.

DT Trent Thompson

When Big Trent Thompson comes to Athens this summer, the Dawgs will be getting a serious boost in the interior of their defensive line.  A five-star recruit out of Westover High School in Albany, GA, Thompson elected to stay in state to play Between the Hedges.  Trent can compete right away as a run-stopper for Tracy Rocker.  Besides staying in state, a massive reason for Trent to sign with the Dawgs was to learn from Coach Rocker, a former Lombardi Award and Outland Trophy winner during his playing days in Auburn.  Under Rocker’s tutelage, Thompson can become the next great interior lineman in the Southeastern Conference.

Only 117 more days until the Dawgs tee it up Between the Hedges against the ULM Warhawks on September 5th.  Let’s Go Dawgs!
