Georgia Expresses Interest In UVA Transfer QB Lambert
By John Buhler

According to Seth Emerson of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Mark Richt confirms the Georgia Bulldogs’ interest in recruiting UVA graduate transfer QB Greyson Lambert. Lambert who is from Wayne County, GA would be able to play right away and still has two years left of collegiate eligibility. After not expressing any interest publicly with Notre Dame graduate transfer QB Everett Golson, now with Florida State, what does UGA’s interest in Lambert say about the Dawgs’ quarterbacks?
Georgia did recruit Lambert back when he was in high school, but all focus went to Brice Ramsey when Greyson committed to Virginia. After redshirting, Lambert played two years of football in Charlottesville for Cavaliers teams that couldn’t reach a bowl game. Outside of playing in his home state, Lambert is looking into transferring to our arch rival Florida as well.

Not since 2006 has there been this much uncertainty coming from the UGA starting QB position. For the last eight years, Georgia has known who its starting quarterback will be before fall camp even began. But with a new OC in Brian Schottenheimer and just three scholarship quarterbacks on the Bulldogs roster, why wouldn’t Georgia want to amp up the intensity in an already heated QB competition.
It seems that with 2016’s #1 Overall QB Prospect Jacob Eason’s firm commitment to the Dawgs, at least one UGA quarterback will transfer and leave the program before Eason’s arrival in January. Eason has the type of arm talent to come in and start right away though he may opt to redshirt in 2016 to better learn Schottenheimer’s offensive system. With Eason waiting the wing so to speak, the days might be numbered for Ramsey, Faton Bauta or Jacob Park as the potential Georgia starting quarterback.
“Obviously it speaks to the fact that we’re trying to create competition.” – UGA OC Brian Schottenheimer on Georgia looking for a graduate transfer
I would be okay with Greyson Lambert coming to Athens and entering the UGA QB competition. If by having four scholarship quarterbacks duking it out for the starting spot further elevates the performance across the board, I’m all for it. Though Lambert has started for the Cavaliers, he wouldn’t have demanded the starting gig like Golson probably would have had he transferred to UGA. Then again, UGA expressed little to no interest in Golson because of an academic suspension while at Notre Dame and the SEC’s stance on the issue.
In my opinion, Georgia has nothing to lose in recruiting Lambert. The Dawgs are primarily going to run the ball in 2015, so the team just needs a passer than can game manage like Hutson Mason did last year. If Lambert can become that efficient QB that UGA needs or his presence at practice help Richt and his staff find their guy, then Georgia will be better off with their quarterbacks in 2015. But Georgia needs to find their passer before the season starts as a dual-quarterback system in Year One under Schottenheimer doesn’t bode well for the Dawgs if the team wants to compete for an SEC Championship and a Playoff Spot.
