Remember when Gurshall was a thing?  The Georgia Bulldogs had two outstanding freshman tailbacks in 2012.  One was a five-star recruit and one was a three-star recruit, both out of  North Carolina.  What if I told you Todd Gurley was the three-star recruit?  Wait, so who was the five-star?

His name is Keith Marshall and he’s a great running back when he’s healthy.  Unfortunately, that’s not all that often.  After a strong freshman campaign, Marshall has rarely seen the field in 2013-14 due to injuries.  I still cringe when I think about that horrible checkdown toss by QB Aaron Murray  that hung Marshall out to dry in Knoxville and ended his season with a torn ACL in 2013.

This myriad of injuries that have plagued Keith Marshall has made Dawg Nation all but forget about the former #5 overall recruit in the Class of 2012.  Todd Gurley came in and dominated college football.  He now plays for the St. Louis Rams. Chubb took over for Gurley before the Mizzou game last year.  Sony Michel and Brendan Douglas have broken into the running back rotation.  Even young AJ Turman is pressing to get into games out of the Georgia backfield.  I really couldn’t tell where Keith Marshall lies on the UGA RB depth chart.

But what if he experiences a renaissance season in 2015 for the Dawgs?  What if Marshall stays healthy this fall?  What if our quarterbacks never have to throw the football and Georgia can still win games?  Keith Marshall was a five-star recruit out of North Carolina for a reason.  As it stands now, the Georgia Bulldogs have three five-star running backs on the 2015 roster.  New RB coach and former Dawg Thomas Brown just coached Doak Walker Award winner Melvin Gordon at Wisconsin.  Good things are in store for Georgia’s running game.

I’m praying for adamantium ACL’s when the Dawgs go to Knoxville.  I want to rush for 5,000 yards this fall as a team without running a single option play.  Unless Brice Ramsey, Greyson Lambert or Faton Bauta get the need for speed and want to start running the football into the end zone, too.  It’ll be like Pony Express except with Dawgs and no Dallas-based slush funds.  Saddle up, partner.  It’s the Year of the Dawg.
