I’ll admit it. Washington is a good spot for Marcus Thornton. It would pain me to see him playing for the Wizards next year, but I think that HC Randy Wittman could use some help with his front court reserves.
In their Eastern Conference Semifinals series with the Atlanta Hawks, I felt like Wittman only played four big men in the entire six games: Marcin Gortat, Nene, Kevin Seraphin, and Drew Gooden, maybe. I don’t think Kris Humphries even played in the series. It came as a shocker to me to not see him in the Wizards rotation because he’s usually a pretty solid offensive player when he gets playing time.
Washington will contend for titles next year both in the Southeast Division and in the Eastern Conference. But for the Wiz to take that next step, they are going to need more depth and versatility down low. They’ve already got great players in the back court with John Wall and Bradley Beal. I can see Marcus Thornton getting a chance to earn minutes for Wittman in DC down low if the Wizards have interest in acquiring the UGA Bulldog.
