Last year, the Georgia Bulldogs had its best offensive line arguably since 2009 when Joe Cox was the starting quarterback. The starting five for the Dawgs gelled as a unit led by then Senior C David Andrews, now with the New England Patriots.

With four of the five starters on the UGA Offensive Line returning in 2015, I’d like to point out who I believe is the best player on that unit: RS Junior G Greg Pyke. In his first season as a starting lineman for the Dawgs, I believe that Pyke was the most consistently strong player on the line behind only Team Captain David Andrews.

Pyke is a former lacrosse player from Maryland. You can tell right away from his impressive footwork as a former long stick defenseman. It’s his inherent quickness that stands out on a pull for a sweep that makes Pyke such a successful interior lineman. He rarely gets beat or causes a false start penalty for the offense. His all-around solid game should definitely benefit whoever ends up winning the starting center job.
I don’t really know what Pyke’s pro prospects are, but like David Andrews and Ben Jones before him, you need to have a leader on the interior of the offensive for the Dawgs to play their best football. I believe Greg Pyke is that guy for the UGA this season.
