No surprises here. This year’s Top Dawg is none other than Pre-Season Heisman Hopeful Sophomore RB Nick Chubb. The Pride of Cedartown had an absolutely unbelievable second half to his true freshman season, finishing with 1,547 rushing yards and a combined 16 touchdowns.

It’s interesting to think back to the home opener against Clemson last fall when Chubb was 4th on the Dawgs’ running back depth chart behind Todd Gurley, Keith Marshall, and Sony Michel. But after the Gurley Suspension and injuries to both Marshall and Michel, Nick Chubb literally carried the Dawgs to a 10 win season and a No. 9 end of the season ranking.

Is Nick Chubb the favorite to win the Heisman in 2015? I don’t know. But he’s definitely on the short list heading into 2015. While he won’t have to play the workhorse role for new OC Brian Schottenheimer in a very deep RB corps, I still think that Nick Chubb is the most important player on the entire Georgia Bulldogs roster.
Are there other deserving players who could have made this list? Certainly. It was hard to leave off Jordan Jenkins, Lorenzo Carter, Malcolm Mitchell, and even incoming freshman Trent Thompson. But I do believe that the five players I’ve mentioned will play crucial roles for the Dawgs this fall. Please feel free to leave your comments and offer your insight on who you think will be big contributors for the UGA this fall.
