Atlanta Hawks SG Kyle Korver to Undergo Elbow Surgery
WSBTV’s Sports Director Zach Klein reported Monday evening that Atlanta Hawks shooting guard Kyle Korver will undergo elbow surgery today. The procedure, described as being minor one, will repair loose bodies in his elbow. Dr. David Altchek will perform the surgery in New York.
Kyle Korver suffered a season ending injury during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers when Cavs point guard Matthew Dellavedova collided with Korver during a scramble for a loose ball. The ensuing collision caused a fracture in Korver’s ankle, requiring surgery later that week, with Korver projected to make a full recovery before the start of the 2015-2016 campaign.

The elbow surgery that Korver will be undergoing today is not related to the ankle injury he suffered in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals that cost the Atlanta Hawks his play for the remainder of the postseason.

There is no reason to believe that this surgery will affect Korver’s three-point shot or overall game in any way, though fans could feel concerned with Korver’s movement next season following his ankle surgery.
Because Korver relies on ball screens and moving without the ball on the court to get an open shot, it is imperative that his ankle fully recovers and is at full strength when the season begins for the Atlanta Hawks offense to flow effectively.
At 34 years of age, it is understandable that Kyle Korver would be undergoing minor procedures such as this particular surgery to maintain the guard’s peak physical conditioning. With Tim Hardaway, Jr. becoming a part of the Atlanta Hawks depth chart on Draft Night, the Hawks now have more depth and shooting ability to cope with potential injuries to their All-Star shooting guard.
During the offseason, Kyle Korver remains in peak physical condition. He takes part in eccentric activities such as the Japanese exercise Misogi, which is an underwater 5k relay where the participant carries two rocks (one weighing 68.5 lbs. and another 82.5 lbs.) across the ocean floor.
After leading the league in three-point percentage last season at just under 50 percent, it is imperative for the Atlanta Hawks that Kyle Korver makes a full recovery following these two recent surgeries and is able to pick up where he left off during the 2015 campaign. Stay tuned for more updates on the Atlanta Hawks.
