Georgia Bulldogs: Better Year, Jenkins or Carter?
By John Buhler
The Georgia Bulldogs have arguably the deepest linebacker corps in the country heading into 2015. With Leonard Floyd expected to have a huge year on the outside for the Dawgs as a possible All-American OLB, who has the better season between OLB’s Jordan Jenkins or Lorenzo Carter?

Jenkins enters this fall as a senior leader for the Dawgs in the front seven. In his first three seasons playing for Mark Richt’s Georgia Bulldogs, Jenkins recorded 15 sacks and 29.5 tackles for a loss of yardage. He also forced 4 fumbles as an outside pass rusher for UGA.

Dawn of the Dawg
Carter came to Athens as the highest-rated recruit in the UGA Class of 2013. He made an impact as a rotational player for the Dawgs as a redshirt freshman with 4.5 sacks and 7 tackles for a loss in 2014. Expect Carter as a redshirt sophomore to assume a larger role in the Georgia Bulldogs pass rush in 2015.
But since Floyd, Jenkins and Carter, along with promising sophomore Davin Bellamy all play on the outside, can Defensive Coordinator Jeremy Pruitt find a way to get more than just two of the pass rushers on the field at the same time?
Last fall, we did see Pruitt play Carter up on the line of scrimmage to some degree of success. We also saw Pruitt try to stick Floyd on the inside to no avail as his run stopping skills hurt his draft stock, hence his return to UGA in 2015.
Jenkins has primarily been strictly a pass rusher for the Dawgs, and a consistent one with 5.0 sacks in his freshman through junior seasons. I’d like to see him continue to thrive at JACK linebacker this fall and up his sack totals to around 8.

Where I believe Carter has the advantage is in his versatility, to line up in multiple places in the front seven for the Georgia Bulldogs. Though he might not have as defined of a role in Pruitt’s pass rush like Floyd or Jenkins, I sense that Carter can become an every-down player for the Dawgs this fall. While I do believe that Jenkins will more sacks than Carter this season, Lorenzo probably has a higher ceiling than Jenkins and could have a breakout season for the Georgia Bulldogs.
I expect Leonard Floyd, Jordan Jenkins, and Lorenzo Carter to all have big seasons with the Dawgs in 2015. It would not surprise me to see two or possibly all three outside linebackers contend for All-SEC honors if Georgia does big things Between the Hedges this fall.
