Though the Atlanta Hawks may not have the NBA Championships of say San Antonio, Chicago, or even Detroit, the City of Atlanta has had some fantastic men coaching their NBA basketball team.  Since relocating from St. Louis in 1969, outside of a rough nine-year stretch in the early-to-mid-2000’s, the Atlanta Hawks have been a playoff caliber team for most of its tenure in Atlanta.

While a lot of it has to do with having talented players, perhaps more of it has to do with the great head coaches that have walked the sidelines in either The Omni or Philips Arena.  The Atlanta Hawks have reached the NBA Playoffs 31 times in 47 seasons in Atlanta.  Five times has a head coach for the Atlanta Hawks won NBA Coach of the Year.

For every generation of Atlanta Hawks fans, not only is there a player to identify with but there is also arguably a successful head coach as well.  Without further ado, here are the Top 5 head coaches in the 47 years of Atlanta Hawks basketball.
