The Atlanta Braves were swept out of Denver on Sunday, losing their fourth consecutive game to the Colorado Rockies by a score of 11-3.

The Braves lost for the fifth consecutive game, falling to 42-47 on the year. This was a devastating weekend for the Braves at Coors Field, losing three close games Thursday through Saturday, and losing closer Jason Grilli for the rest of the season due to a ruptured Achilles on Saturday afternoon. The loss today drops the Atlanta Braves to five games under .500 going into the All-Star break, putting them 7 games behind the NL East leading Washington Nationals.

The Rockies got out to a quick 3-0 lead with the help of Nick Hundley and Charlie Blackmon singles. The Atlanta Braves would respond, tying the score at 3 in the 6th inning with RBI singles from Kelly JohnsonA.J. Pierzynski, and a Jonny Gomes ground-rule double.

The tie would not last long, as Braves’ pitcher Alex Wood was not able to shut down a prolific Rockies offense, allowing 7 earned runs on 10 Rockies hits in 5.2 innings. The game was close going into the 6th inning with the score tied at 3-3. Following a Charlie Blackmon single that scored Wilin Rosario and Nick Hundley, Fredi Gonzalez pulled Wood in favor of David Carpenter. The heavens opened when Carpenter entered the game, who allowed a 3-run homer to Troy Tulowitzki, making the score 8-3.

The Atlanta Braves were unable to score for the rest of the game as David Carpenter allowed another 2-run homer to Drew Stubbs in the 7th, and Jake Brigham allowed another RBI to Nolan Arenado in the 8th inning.

This was an awful weekend for the Atlanta Braves — both in the standings and in the clubhouse. The loss of Jason Grilli on Saturday was devastating, as was being swept by a team with the second worst record in baseball going into the series. The Atlanta Braves must now lick their wounds as they limp into the All-Star Break, not knowing how the rest of the season will play out.

With the MLB Trade Deadline looming, it is uncertain if the Atlanta Braves will buy or sell and if they can recover in the standings to make a run at the division. The Atlanta Braves lone All-Star, Shelby Miller, appears in the 86th MLB All Star Game on Tuesday in Cincinnati.

Keep it here for all things Braves as the second half of the season commences on Friday vs. the Cubs at the Ted.
