Nov 16, 2013; Auburn, AL, USA; A general view of Toomer

I don’t think I will ever be able to shake this game from my brain.  All because of one of the most infamous plays in Georgia Football history.  Then add in that I was visiting my sister who goes to Auburn for game day.  I’ve never been around a crazier atmosphere in my life.

Auburn had one loss heading into its annual meeting with Georgia in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.  At the time, UGA still had an outside chance of playing in the SEC Championship Game again for the third season in a row.  This game in 2013 went back and forth all night.  I got the feeling very early on that whoever had the football last would come away victorious in this rivalry game.

I remember watching Aaron Murray scramble into the endzone while I was in Downtown Auburn inside of two minutes.  My friends and I were elated to think that the Dawgs were going to pull the upset over red-hot Auburn.  The Dawgs defense managed to force Auburn into an impossible situation, convert a 4th and 17 to move the chains inside of one minute.

More from UGA Football

Auburn QB Nick Marshall heaved a hail mary to the middle of the field.  I was certain that a UGA DB would do the intelligent thing and bat the errant throw into the ground.  Instead safety Josh Harvey-Clemons decide to play hero and go for the interception.  Well, he botched to attempted pick and the ball dropped right into sophomore WR Ricardo Lewis hands as he scampered for a 73-yard game-winning touchdown catch.

I promptly curled up into a ball in the middle of SkyBar wondering if this was even remotely possible.  What kind of simpleton doesn’t bat down what was basically a 4th and goal pass from Auburn’s own 27-yard line?  No Auburn fan was rude to any Georgia fan about what had just happened.  There were as shocked as we were.

Being in Auburn for the Prayer at Jordan-Hare game was a surreal experience.  The chances of Auburn scoring a touchdown on that hail mary were infinitesimal.  Then again I realized, oh yeah, this is the Georgia Bulldogs we’re talking about!  Bad stuff happens to them all the time.  I can’t watch replays of that pass or I will need institutionalization.  Frankly, I believe all of Dawg Nation feels the same way.
