This game epitomized the Annual Mark Richt Letdown Game. Georgia was #5 in the country, going to play rival South Carolina who was #6 at the time on their turf in Columbia. College GameDay was in the Capital of South Carolina. Even Darius Rucker made his presence known on GameDay in this growing rivalry.

This Border War has grown hostile ever since former Florida HC Steve Spurrier took over for a struggling South Carolina program in 2005. Since then, the Head Ball Coach has taken the Gamecocks to new heights as a major player in the college football landscape. So with UGA nemesis Steve Spurrier egging your team on and with Williams-Brice Stadium blaring Sandstorm at every opportunity, how can you not get your team pumped up to play in a very hostile environment in Columbia?
For some reason Mark Richt’s teams have no idea how to play the Gamecocks in Columbia. Perhaps hearing Sandstorm on loop gets Dawgs to fall into trances. I’ve seen some disappointing games from Georgia over the last seven years, but I don’t think I’ve seen a more uninspired performance from the Dawgs since that 35-7 clobbering at the hands of Jadeveon Clowney and the South Carolina Gamecocks in October 2012. I wish I remember more from this game. Then again, maybe I don’t. No need to bring more repressed memories to live I suppose.
