Atlanta Braves: Five All-Star Position Player Wish List
By John Buhler
Behold! The greatest game in all of baseball: San Francisco Giants RF Hunter Pence. Nobody wants it more than Captain Underpants. With his unorthodox approach at the plate that resembles a praying mantis and a fearlessness to get the job done at all costs, a team full of Hunter Pences wins the World Series every year.
Look at the San Francisco Giants. The Giants had not won a World Series since moving to the Bay Area from New York City in the last 1950’s. Hunter Pence joins the team the in 2012 and the Giants have won two of the last three, and three of the last five. This 3x All-Star is a career .284/.337/.471 hitter. But where Pence really shines is in October.
In his two World Series, Pence’s offensive splits are borderline insane: .390/.435/.561. Correction: those are insane numbers. Given that he’s only made the postseason three times, twice in San Francisco and once in Philadelphia, just get him there and he will basically carry your team.

I’ve never seen a baseball player will himself to this much success. You have to believe that every hitting coach he’s worked with wonders how on Earth he is able to thrive offensively with that swing of his. But they will never fix it because it never breaks.
Hunter Pence is only 32 years of age. I don’t think his days of playing in World Series are over by a long shot. Should he lead his team to victory one more time, we might need to start considering Pence’s place in Cooperstown. Though his numbers aren’t even close to getting him enshrined, you can never devalue the intrinsic qualities that make up a winner. I’d like to see him continue to defy the odds and ultimately earn enshrinement. What he would do for the Atlanta Braves culture…
