Part of the allure of the Georgia-South Carolina rivalry is that not only is it a bitter border war between flagship universities of neighboring states but also how early in the regular season the annual matchup occurs.  Most seasons this SEC East rivalry game is the opener to conference play for both teams, though not for Georgia this year.  Richt’s Dawgs open SEC play in Week 2 at Vanderbilt.

This Week 3 game is a must-win for the Dawgs as Richt couldn’t possibly losing five of six to Steve Spurrier’s Gamecocks, could he?  Given the loquaciousness of the Head Ball Coach, if South Carolina were to end up in the 20’s in the initial Top 25 Poll, this game could have even more hype than it probably would have otherwise.  South Carolina is coming off a massively disappointing 2014 campaign.

More from UGA Football

Though this will be a tough battle on the gridiron Between the Hedges as most UGA-USC games are, it seems like a long shot for Lee Corso and the College GameDay crew to venture to Athens, GA in Week 3. Other intriguing matchups include Auburn-LSU, Stanford-Southern Cal, Alabama-Ole Miss, Georgia Tech-Notre Dame, and even Miami (FL)-Nebraska.

While my favorite of all these scheduled games is UGA-USC, I can’t with conviction say that Savannah River Rivalry (yes, I’m poorly attempting to nickname this annual game) would be more appealing on the national landscape given USC’s down year in 2014.  While it makes the short list of potential destinations for the ESPN crew, if I had to guess I’d say they’re going to Los Angeles in Week 3.
