Georgia Bulldogs’ Seniors Speak at SEC Media Days
By John Buhler
The 2015 Georgia Bulldogs football team sent three seniors along with HC Mark Richt to SEC Media Days at Hoover, Alabama. Those three seniors were LT John Theus, OLB Jordan Jenkins, and WR Malcolm Mitchell. All three seniors conducted themselves well with the Southeastern media as three of the primary vocal leaders on this year’s Dawgs team.

Theus is a former Top 25 Recruit in the 2012 High School Senior Class as a premier OT prospect out of Jacksonville. John has taken the vocal leader role on the 2015 offense after the departure of C David Andrews and C Hutson Mason. Theus handled all over his questions with poise and conviction.

Dawn of the Dawg
He spoke very highly of his teammate Brandon Kublanow who now moves over to center from guard in 2015. Theus said “Bull” is one of the strongest members of the UGA team and likes how his stockier build reminds him so much of David Andrews.
John also believes that he already has a great working relationship with G Isaiah Wynn who will likely play beside him at LG in 2015. Theus stated how important it was that the Georgia Bulldogs are returning 4 of 5 starters up front on the offensive line. Bringing in a “special player” like Wynn into the starting 5 bodes very well for the Dawgs this upcoming season.
Jordan Jenkins thrives at the JACK linebacker position for LB Coach Kevin Sherrer and is one of two Georgia Bulldogs on the Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List with fellow OLB Leonard Floyd. Jenkins mostly talked about how this year’s team will not fall victim to complacency as it has in year’s past.
You could tell by the tone of his voice that previous heartbreaking defeats, especially last year versus Florida and in 2012 versus Mizzou, are still very much motivating tools for the senior leader linebacker. Having a great leader like Jordan Jenkins in the linebacker corps both on and off the field is huge for Jeremy Pruitt’s defense in Year Two at Georgia. Jenkins said, “We have a different mindset, more mature.”

Malcolm Mitchell might have been the media darling at this year’s SEC Media Days (outside of the always entertaining Steve Spurrier and Les Miles), following former UGA wideout Chris Conley’s incredible extracurricular interests. Malcolm Mitchell is an avid supporter of literacy in the public school system, advocating how important reading is for young children. Mitchell not only talked about being the focal point in new OC Brian Schottenheimer’s passing game, but he also promoted his first children’s book.

My biggest takeaway from the Georgia Bulldogs at SEC Media Days is the culture change to maturity expressed by its senior leaders. It will take several leaders on this year’s team to get the Dawgs to Atlanta and possibly play for a CFP berth in 2015. As much as I would have loved to have seen RB Nick Chubb in Hoover this week, I believe that HC Mark Richt picked the right three men to speak on Georgia’s behalf at SEC Media Days. Expect Chubb to represent Georgia next year as a true junior.
