Terry Godwin defines the term athlete. Godwin had a choice to make between playing football collegiately in the SEC or signing with the Atlanta Braves. Terry opted to come to Athens where HC Mark Richt has given him clearance to play both Between the Hedges and for the Diamond Dawgs.
Godwin comes to Athens as one of the prized recruits of the 2015 Class as the number one athlete in the country. While he could play DB on Jeremy Pruitt’s defense, I feel that he is best suited to play WR for Bryan McClendon in Brian Schottenheimer’s new offense.
Terry has said that he loved the hiring of Schottenheimer to replace former OC Mike Bobo because Coach Schottenheimer coached his favorite NFL player while with the St. Louis Rams organization: former WVU WR Tavon Austin. Godwin patterned his receiving game after Austin and sees himself as a big time playmaker for Coach Schottenheimer in the slot and short-to-mid range passing attack.

If Terry is able to prove that he has sure hands and a firm grasp of Schotty’s route trees as a true freshman, expect him to at least get his fair share of opportunities in the new look UGA passing game. I feel that Godwin can benefit from picking the brain of RS Senior Malcolm Mitchell on how to use his explosiveness to make plays in the Georgia offense. When healthy, Mitchell is one of the best deep threats in the SEC.
While there is a chance that Terry Godwin could have a Malcolm Mitchell, potentially an AJ Green caliber freshman year at WR for the Georgia Bulldogs, I feel like he’s a solid slot, 3rd down receiver in Schottenheimer’s passing game heading into 2015. He should make an impact on offense like Isaiah McKenzie or Jeb Blazevich did last season.
