Amway Coaches Poll, July 30th: UGA and GT in Top 25
By John Buhler
The initial Amway Coaches Poll has both the Georgia Bulldogs and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in the Top 25. This doesn’t come as a surprise after both UGA and GT finished in the Top 10 of last year’s final AP Top 25 Poll. Georgia sits at #9 with Georgia Tech standing at #17. All things considered, this is about where I figured both programs would start the year.

Mark Richt’s Georgia Bulldogs could have fallen anywhere from 8th to 12th and that would have been sufficient as the pre-season favorite to win the SEC East. Paul Johnson’s Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets lost a ton on both sides of the ball but it would have been difficult to keep the Ramblin’ Wreck out of the 15th to 20th range.

Dawn of the Dawg
It’s no surprise that the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs are one and two respectively in the initial Amway Coaches Poll, as many, myself included, feel that these are the teams to beat heading into the 2015 NCAA season. Alabama and Baylor complete the Top 4 with College Football Playoff aspirations. Oregon, Michigan State, Auburn, Florida State, and USC join UGA in the Top 10.
I don’t have any complaints about any of those teams being in the Top 10, but I’m a bit surprised to see the USC Trojans at 10 when I feel like they are the favorite to win the Pac-12, not the Oregon Ducks. Baylor seems too high and I think Georgia is better than Florida State entering 2015. But overall not a bad initial Top 10 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
-= Georgia Tech Picked to Win ACC Coastal =-
Ahead of Georgia Tech but out of the Top 10 are Notre Dame, Clemson, LSU, UCLA, Ole Miss, and Arizona State. Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Arkansas join Tech to close out the Top 20. Stanford, Arizona, Missouri, Boise State and Tennessee round out the Top 25. With Notre Dame, Clemson, UGA, and FSU all being ahead of the Jackets in the Amway Coaches Poll, their 2015 schedule just got a lot tougher. Tech will play four very strong teams this fall.

Georgia is one of eight SEC teams ranked in the Top 25 with Mississippi State and Texas A&M barely on the outside looking in at 26th and 27th, respectively. The Dawgs will likely play at least five ranked teams this season during the regular season.
While there are a few teams that I don’t necessarily agree with their position in the Top 25, I feel that both Georgia and Georgia Tech find themselves in good spots in the initial Amway Coaches Poll. Sure, both programs could be up a spot or two, but I like where they’re all things considered.

Football season is almost here. I can’t hardly wait for it any longer. Big things are on the horizon both in Athens and in Atlanta for our State’s two Power 5 programs. We’re a little over a month away…
