Freddie Freeman was placed on the 15 day Disabled List on Tuesday afternoon by the Atlanta Braves after suffering a right oblique strain in the 5th inning of Monday night’s game against the San Francisco Giants.

The right oblique strain to Freddie Freeman is the latest injury to the Atlanta Braves’ star first-baseman. Freeman was recently activated from the Disabled List after missing over a month due to an injured wrist. In the 10 games since his return from his previous stint on the Disabled List, Freddie Freeman was hitting an uncharacteristic .200 at the plate.

Freddie Freeman’s latest injury is a huge blow to the struggling Atlanta Braves, who will once again be without their primary offensive threat. Freeman’s presence in the lineup is huge for the Braves, who will now have to rely on players like Cameron Maybin and Nick Markakis to mitigate the loss of Freeman’s production.

On the year, Freddie Freeman has hit .286 with 14 home-runs and 45 runs batted in for the Atlanta Braves. His average dipped under .300 since he came back from the DL two weeks ago.

In other injury news for the Atlanta Braves, relief pitcher Jason Fraser was also sent to the Disabled List after dealing with right shoulder inflammation. Frasor has stated that this is the first time in his twelve-year career that he has struggled with this particular injury.

Frasor has been very effective for the Braves since being signed last month by the club. He owns a 0.0 ERA in 4.2 innings pitched with the ballclub. This is another huge blow for a bullpen that has struggled with consistency throughout the 2015 season.

In a corresponding move, the Atlanta Braves also announced that they have recalled OF/IF Joey Terdoslavich and RHP Ryan Kelly from AAA Gwinnett in light of the injuries to both Freddie Freeman and Jason Frasor. Terdoslavich with provide depth at the first-base position in Freeman’s absence.

The Atlanta Braves will start Chris Johnson at first and bat cleanup in tonight’s Game 2 of their series with the San Francisco Giants. Johnson will most likely continue to be the Braves best option at first-base after the injury to Freddie Freeman. Johnson’s move from 3rd means that last night’s hero Adonis Garcia will continue to get playing time at third-base until newly acquired Hector Olivera is ready to come off the Disabled List.

At this juncture of the season, Freddie Freeman’s future health is of paramount importance; and though he will be missed in the lineup, his absence will serve to give more players playing time on the re-tooling Atlanta Braves.
