The Atlanta Braves offense again struggled mightily on Wednesday evening, falling to Madison Bumgarner and the San Francisco Giants by a score of 6-1.

The Braves closed out the 3 game series with the Giants on a poor note, as they were only able to plate one run over the course of Wednesday’s game. After a disappointing start against the Texas Rangers last week, Madison Bumgarner pitched a gem against the Braves, going 7.1 innings while giving up 7 hits and 1 run and striking out 9.

Wednesday’s starter for the Atlanta Braves, Williams Perez, struggled in his second game back from the Disabled List, giving up 6 runs (all earned) on 10 hits in 6.1 innings pitched. It is clear that Perez has been unable to regain the dominant form that he displayed before his stint on the DL.

The Giants got out to an early lead in the second inning, as second-baseman Kelby Tomlinson singled home Brandon Belt and Ehire Adrianza to make the score 2-0. Tomlinson singled home another run in the fourth inning, increasing the Giants’ lead to 3-0.

Giants’ third-baseman and Rookie of the Year candidate Matt Duffy continued his hot streak in the 7th inning, hitting a double that scored both Nori Aoki and Gregor Blanco. The next batter, Hunter Pence, then singled home Matt Duffy in what proved to be the final batter that Williams Perez would face in the contest, stretching the Giants’ lead to 6-0.

The only run the Atlanta Braves were able to salvage on this listless night was a double off the bat of reserve catcher Ryan Lavarnway, which brought home Jace Peterson and prevented a shutout, making the score 6-1. Lavarnway has hit safely in 9 of his 11 starts in the 2015 season.

Nick Markakis extended his hitting streak to 12 consecutive games on Wednesday, which is now the third longest streak of its kind in the majors. The Atlanta Braves went 1 for 6 when runners were in scoring position. Also, Cameron Maybin had the night off as Eury Perez started in center-field.

After struggling on Tuesday, the bullpen pitched 3 innings of shutout ball. Both Jake Brigham and Ryan Kelly only allowed one hit apiece in 3 innings of solid work.

The Atlanta Braves offense is the worst it has been all season; and the loss of Freddie Freeman to the Disabled List again has amplified the issue. The Braves open up a 4 game series with the Miami Marlins on Thursday at 7:10 PM. The Marlins series will also showcase the Atlanta Braves’ alumni weekend; so if you’re in the neighborhood, head down to the Ted and partake in the festivities.
