Nick Markakis recorded his second consecutive 3 hit game and extended his season-long hitting streak to 15 straight games as the Atlanta Braves beat the Miami Marlins again on Saturday night by a final score of 7-2.

The Atlanta Braves beat the Marlins for a third consecutive time in this four game series. Mike Foltynewicz notched the win, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing 2 runs (both earned) on 5 hits and 4 walks. Foltynewicz also struck out 3 Marlins.

Saturday’s game was the best outing Foltynewicz has had in a while, still displaying some lack of command after walking batters but having an overall good outing. It is encouraging to see Folty shake off walks and get out of an inning unscathed.

The biggest story of the evening for the Atlanta Braves was the debut of Nick Swisher and the return of Michael Bourn to Atlanta. Swisher tweeted before the game on Saturday how excited he was to play for the Braves, stating:

The Atlanta Braves started the game with a lead in the 1st inning, courtesy of an RBI single of the bat of Catcher A.J. Pierzynski, which scored Cameron Maybin to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. The Marlins would counter in the top of the 2nd, as right-fielder Cole Gillespie doubled to deep right, scoring J.T. Realmuto and tying the game at 1 run apiece.

In the Atlanta Braves half of the 2nd inning, Shortstop Andrelton Simmons hit a sacrifice fly in his first game back from an injury, scoring Jace Peterson and making the score 2-0. Then again in the top of 3rd, Cole Gillespie evened the score at 2 runs by hitting an infield single which brought home Casey McGehee.

With the game tied at 2 in the 5th inning, Nick Markakis continued his recent torrid hitting by singling home Cameron Maybin. The Atlanta Braves reclaimed the lead at 3-2. Cameron Maybin finished the night with two doubles and two runs scored.

In the bottom of the 7th inning, Swisher had his first hit with the Atlanta Braves, driving a ball to the warning track in deep left center field for an 2 RBI double, scoring Nick Markakis and A.J. Pierzynski to increase the Braves lead to 5-2. Given Swisher’s enthusiasm before the game, he showed his excitement on the base-path as he gave a tomahawk chop as he pulled into second base. It is great to see a veteran player so excited to play for the Atlanta Braves and ready to contribute in whatever capacity he can.

The scoring wasn’t done for the Atlanta Braves as they added two more runs in the 8th innings. Andrelton Simmons hit a double down the right-field line, scoring third-baseman Adonis Garcia. Then Jonny Gomes hit an infield single past shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria which scored Simmons, giving the game its decisive score of 7-2. Former and now current Brave Michael Bourn also recorded his first hit back with his old club with an 8th inning hit.

The Atlanta Braves go for the 4-game sweep of the Miami Marlins tomorrow at 5:00 at Turner Field, with ace Shelby Miller toeing the rubber. Maybe after scoring 9, 6, and 7 runs so far in this series, perhaps Miller will finally receive some run support to end his winless streak.
