The Georgia Bulldogs cancelled part two of their two-a-days with their annual Ramsey Day, where the Dawgs kick back and enjoy some aquatic fun at the Ramsey Center Pool.

This is an annual event as part of the Mark Richt Era of Georgia Bulldogs football, where once every fall camp the Head Coach will choose to give his players the afternoon off and have some fun together as a team.  As is tradition Mark Richt does his patented dive off the high dive to his players’ enjoyment.

This is one of the coolest traditions set in motion by Mark Richt since coming to Athens in 2001.  Since UGA still lacks an indoor practice facility, part of the way that Richt and his staff handles the Georgia Heat during this part of the summer is to take all the team’s players to a fun afternoon at the pool at the Ramsey Center.

Mark Richt feels this is a great way for freshmen to get acquainted with some of the upperclassmen on the team as well as act as a motivator for the juniors and seniors who have experienced the good times had during previous Ramsey Days.

I think it takes some serious guts to annually pull off a day like this in the always difficult Southeastern Conference.  Do you think Nick Saban, Les Miles, or Steve Spurrier would send their entire football teams to the pool for an afternoon of fun and relaxations?  No way!  But that’s what I love about Mark Richt.  15 years later everybody involved in the Georgia Bulldogs football program absolutely loves Ramsey Day.

If was an upperclassman, I would work my tail off to try to get Ramsey Day to happen as soon as possible.  Not everybody enjoys the heat and humidity in the Classic City.  Though some may enjoy swimming more than others on the team, you have to believe that the Dawgs thoroughly enjoy Mark Richt’s annual high dive.

Overall I see Ramsey Day as a continuously great team-building exercise for the Georgia Bulldogs football program.  Mark Richt likes to keep his team on edge and never announces when Ramsey Day is coming but the team erupts in excitement the second Richt tells the squad.

Though many view today as a wasted practice, I feel this is one of the cool perks of Committing to the G.  Here’s to many more Ramsey Days to come here for Mark Richt and his entire Georgia Bulldogs team!  Go Dawgs!
