Georgia Bulldogs: Out of the Pool and Into the Sun

The Georgia Bulldogs enjoyed their off day yesterday after their annual trip to the Ramsey Center to enjoy some aquatic fun with the entire team.  But it’s back to Finishing the Drill Tuesday as the Dawgs embark on two-a-days.

The team had an early morning practice that focused on chewing up the clock on offense while the defense tries to get a stop or turnover in that situation.  One-minute drills and red zone situations were also part of this morning’s practice.

To me, when you’re doing end of game or end of possession drills, it means that the coaching staff is wrapping up installs.  Though most of the team knows what the coaching staff expects out of them in those crucial situations, for most of the incoming freshmen this is an entirely new way of doing things for them.  I’m certain of it.

  • Players like LBs Ryne Rankin and Jake Ganus know how hard the boys are practicing as the Dawgs know it’s only three weeks until game week.  Injuries have been kept to a minimum with just DE James DeLoach and WR/KR Isaiah McKenzie missing action thus far in fall camp.

Senior RB Keith Marshall said this week that he feels the healthiest he has been since arriving at UGA back in August of 2012.  A healthy Keith Marshall adds another level of dynamism to an already impressive Georgia Bulldogs backfield.  With Marshall in the backfield, the Georgia Bulldogs can run five deep at tailback.  What other Power 5 program that runs a pro-style offense can make that claim?

Though this is only the 8th day of practice for the Georgia Bulldogs this fall with 29 sessions on the slate before the ULM Warhawks come to town on September 5th, expect today to stand as one of the most important days of Dawgs Camp this fall.  Georgia will have to rebound from a fun day at the Gabrielsen Natatorium inside of the Ramsey Center to busting their tails in their first two-a-days practice of fall camp.

How the players respond after a day of relaxation might decide the pecking order of the depth chart or who gets more reps with the first or second teams.  If the players didn’t practice hard after Ramsey Days in the past, I’m sure that Head Coach Mark Richt would have done away with them long ago.  But both he and his players seem to thoroughly the designed team-building activity.

After this morning’s practice, Richt said, “little by little, we’re getting there.  We’re working them hard and they’re doing a good job of responding.”  Though the Georgia Bulldogs are not even a third of the way through their fall camp, it seems like everybody is on the same page heading into the 2015 Season.  Here’s to an injury-free camp and a stellar season played Between The Hedges.  Forever, Go Dawgs!
