The Atlanta Braves beat the red-hot Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night at Turner Field thanks to a solid outing by Julio Teheran, holding the D-backs at bay by a score of 3-2.

Julio Teheran pitched 6 strong innings, allowing only 1 earned run on 3 hits in 6.0 innings pitched. This continues a recent trend of good performances for Teheran, who has struggled for most of the season with a 4.44 ERA after tonight’s game.

The Atlanta Braves claimed an early lead on Friday night, as Jace Peterson stroked a triple to right field in the bottom of the 3rd inning, scoring Andrelton Simmons and giving the Braves a 1-0. The Atlanta Braves weren’t done in the bottom of the 3rd, as Cameron Maybin tripled to deep right the very next at bat, scoring Jace Peterson and giving Atlanta a 2-0.  It’s very rare that you see not only one triple on a given night, but even more rare that the Braves hit consecutive triples in this contest.

Cameron Maybin continued his good play tonight by singling home Andrelton Simmons in the bottom of the 5th inning, making the score 3-0 in favor of the Atlanta Braves. Maybin had two hits and two RBI’s in Friday’s contest.

The streaking Diamondbacks would not go quietly, however, as the ever dangerous Paul Goldschmidt put the Snakes on the board in the top of the 6th inning, doubling home Ender Inciarte and making the score 3-1 Braves. Goldschmidt’s RBI double off of Teheran scored was the only earned run allowed by the Braves starter on Friday.

The D-backs inched closer in the top of the 8th inning, as center-fielder A.J. Pollock brought home Ender Inciarte to make the score 3-2. The Diamondbacks continued to threaten in the 8th, but Atlanta Braves reliever David Aardsma was bailed out with a 6-4-3 double play to end the frame.

David Aardsma also contributed with 2 innings in relief, allowing only 1 run in the 8th inning.

The Atlanta Braves and Arizona Diamondbacks are back at tomorrow for Game 2 of the 3-game set, as Mike Foltynewicz gets the call for the Bravos. The D-backs will counter with Patrick Corbin. First pitch is set for a 7:10 PM start time.
