Atlanta Falcons: 5 Players to Benefit Most from Preseason
By John Buhler
Thomas Dimitroff’s signing of Mike Person was a good under-the-radar move for the Atlanta Falcons. Person sits as the Atlanta Falcons starting Left Guard according to Dan Quinn’s initial depth chart reveal. Mike came to Atlanta from the St. Louis Rams to essentially spot start and add depth to the interior on the offensive line.

Atlanta is the fifth organization Person will be a part of in as many seasons. Mike has been a member of the San Francisco 49ers, the Indianapolis Colts, the Seattle Seahawks, and most recently the St. Louis Rams were he appeared in all 16 games last year for Jeff Fisher.

Though Person has played sparingly over the last four seasons (17 career games), I think Kyle Shanahan and Offensive Line Coach Chris Morgan like his quickness at guard. It’s important for the guards to move well in the zone blocking scheme as they have to pull often on sweeps, counters, and other designed runs.
Person has seemed to have taken control of the vacant left guard spot left by former LG Justin Blalock. With Chris Chester and Jon Asamoah duking it out for right guard, with James Stone cross-training for all three interior line spots, Person needs to have a strong showing in these preseason games for him to finally earn a starting gig as a professional.
