A major reason why I’m certain that the Georgia Bulldogs will have a Top 5 offensive line in the nation is because of Greg Pyke being the necessary rock on the interior.  As a sophomore last year, Pyke took over at right guard and never looked back.  His quickness, strength and versatility make him a very special player up front for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Pyke, a former defenseman on his high school lacrosse team, provides agility and stability on the interior of the offensive line.  David Andrews is now with the New England Patriots and though Brandon Kublanow played on the interior last year, he will have to change positions this fall by moving from left guard to center after Andrews’ departure.  The highly praised sophomore Isaiah Wynn will likely play opposite of Greg Pyke in 2015 at left guard.

I kept hearing Greg Pyke’s name being thrown around during last fall’s camp as the guy to keep an eye on.  As a first-year starter in 2014, Pyke not only performed well up front but is arguably one of the best five players on the entire UGA roster.

We don’t often praise offensive guards since they don’t set the edge like the tackles or snap the ball like the center, but in an offensive that expects to run the football as much as Georgia plans to, it is beyond crucial to have strong guard play that can keep up the intensity.

Whether it’s forming a perfect pocket for the passer, creating holes on a dive, or pulling like a mad man to get clearance on a toss sweep, Greg Pyke can do it all.  The Dawgs are fortunate that Pyke is only a junior with two more years of eligibility.  This running attack UGA can dominate opposing front sevens this season because of guys up front like Greg Pyke.
