Cameron Maybin, the former 1st round pick by the Detroit Tigers, has been a bright spot in a rough season for the Atlanta Braves. Could he be a nice buy low, sell high candidate?

In his first season with the Braves, Cameron Maybin has exceeded expectations. Once a highly coveted top prospect, Maybin was plagued by injuries and poor play over the past two seasons for the San Diego Padres; however, he looks to have regained his step in Atlanta and is showing why he was once a first round pick.

Cameron Maybin made his Major League debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2007, but he has struggled to stay with a team for the long-term. After struggling in San Diego for the past two seasons, the Padres were willing to send him to Atlanta in a surprise deal that involved Craig Kimbrel and Melvin Upton Jr.

Besides a stellar 2011 season with San Diego, Maybin is having his best season to date, posting career bests in batting average (.271), home runs (8), RBI’s (48), and fielding percentage (.992), albeit the season is not over. Maybin was considered to be a toss-in to the trade that landed the Padres Craig Kimbrel, and he quickly claimed the starting center field job in Atlanta.

By gaining regular playing time, Cameron Maybin has been able to showcase his talent. He has a nice blend of pop and speed, while playing above average center field. With the Braves having Mallex Smith in the farm system, could we see Maybin on the move this offseason?

With John Hart eyeing a new-look Braves team by 2017, Cameron Maybin could be a nice asset to land more prospects or even an impact bat. Although trading him may seem likely, the Jose Peraza trade may hint that the Braves intend on keeping Maybin. Hart has a few avenues he could pursue with the resurgent outfielder, but it seems that it will take a great offer to land him.

The Braves acquired Cameron Maybin, along with Wisler and Paroubeck, while unloading the lengthy, expensive contracts of Melvin Upton and Craig Kimbrel, essentially tagging Maybin with the buy-low label. With his recent success, it would make sense for the Braves to look to deal him for the right price.

Whether John Hart decides to trade the recently acquired outfielder or keep him, both options present perks for the team. Ultimately if a prospective team offers the right trade, we could see Maybin on the move. Only time will tell.
