JJ Frazier Arrested on Misdemeanor Traffic Charges

According to Seth Emerson of the AJC and Dawg Nation, Georgia Bulldogs SG J.J. Frazier was arrested last night on two misdemeanor traffic charges, including driving on a suspended license.

This is the second time arrest for JJ Frazier that was traffic related.  An Athens-Clarke County officer pulled him over last year for rolling through a stop sign and discover that Frazier did not have a valid driver’s license at that time.

JJ Frazier was not suspended any games by UGA Men’s Basketball HC Mark Fox after last year’s arrest.  However, given that this is the second time in as many years for Frazier, I can see Fox disciplining Frazier in 2015-16 by having him sit out a few games in non-conference play to start the season.

Fortunately for both Georgia and JJ Frazier, this is just a traffic arrest and not anything detrimental to the student conduct policy at the University of Georgia.  Frazier should play a big part on Fox’s team this winter, as JJ, PG Charles Mann, and fellow SG Kenny Gaines headline a very strong and experienced UGA back court.

That back court is versatile in their ability to generate offense in multiple ways.  Mann is the primary ball handler and often draws contact in the lane while penetrating the basketball.  His ability to make free throws, control the clock, and get opposing players in foul trouble should help UGA on both ends of the floor.

Gaines can do it all and when healthy he can take over a game with his athleticism and basketball intelligence.  Where JJ Frazier best helps the Dawgs is in the long-range offensive game.  He had an outstanding 37-point game against the Mississippi State Bulldogs down in Starkville.  Frazier started 16 games for the Georgia Bulldogs last season, averaging 9.5 PPG.

I hope this most recent arrest allows Frazier to re-focus and prepare for another strong season with the hoops team in Stegeman Coliseum.  Georgia should again contend in the SEC and hope to get back to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.  In a rapidly improving basketball conference, the Dawgs will have to replace two key players down low in Nemanja Djurisic and Marcus Thornton and keep their triple-headed back court attack intact to stay relevant in the new era of Southeastern Conference basketball.
