. 125. . 29. Final

With so much history between Mike Budenholzer and Gregg Popovich from their time together in San Antonio, how could you not get up for when the San Antonio Spurs come to town?  Who knows how many more opportunities the City of Atlanta will get to see the San Antonio Big Three (Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker) together?

So much of what Coach Bud has brought to Atlanta is his systems stems from what he learned from Pop in the Alamo City.  Though San Antonio was the one Western Conference foe that the Atlanta Hawks did not defeat last season, I know that Coach Bud wants to bring his best when he takes on his former mentor’s team.

More from ATL All Day

The San Antonio Spurs made two huge free acquisitions this offseason, signing prized PF LaMarcus Aldridge away from the Portland Trail Blazers and getting veteran PF David West to agree to come to the Alamo City on a veteran minimum contract when the Indiana Pacers were planning on giving him an 8-figure salary to stay in Indy.

Regardless of the outcome on December 12th when the Spurs make their only regular season trip to Atlanta, I always circle this game on the calendar for two reasons.  The first is that San Antonio is a lock to win 50 games every season and contend for NBA Championships in most of them.  They have won 5 NBA Titles in the Popovich Era. The other is that what the Spurs run for Pop is what hopefully Coach Bud’s system in Atlanta becomes.  Maybe Bud finally knocks off Pop in December at home?
