Georgia Bulldogs: RB Corps Like Where Unit Stands

Three members of the Georgia Bulldogs extremely deep running back group met with the media following yesterday’s rainy practice.  Nick Chubb, Keith Marshall and AJ Turman collectively like where their position group stands as the Dawgs begin Fall Semester at the University of Georgia.

Nick Chubb is trying to keep a level head going into his highly anticipated sophomore campaign for the Georgia Bulldogs.  When asked if he has any personal milestones that he wants to achieve, Chubb stated that he while he does jot down goals, he prefers to keep them personal.  I see that as a way for Nick to stay humble and strive to achieve his own goals that only he knows about.

  • Chubb plans “on staying focused” and keeping doing what he’s been doing.  One area of emphasis for Nick Chubb this past spring was on being a more valuable commodity on third down.  Last year he claimed to not have known the pass protection schemes all that well and that hindered his effectiveness on obvious 3rd and long passing situations.

This isn’t a surprise since Chubb was essentially forced into the starting role as a true freshman after the Todd Gurley Autograph Situation and lingering injuries to both Keith Marshall and Sony Michel.  As a true sophomore, expect Chubb to become a more complete back on third down in both pass protection and in check-down receiving.

When asked how he would handle the luxury of tremendous depth if he was in Coach Schottenheimer’s shoes, Chubb is glad that it’s not up to him but he does trust his teammates to deliver when Coach Schotty calls their number.

Keith Marshall sees the depth of the running back corps as a good problem to have.  Marshall commented, “The whole team learned over the last few years is that you can’t rely on one running back.  You need a lot of guys at every position who can step up and contribute.”

AJ Turman appears like he’s in the RB mix in 2015 after an injury-plagued 2014.  He thinks that the Georgia Bulldogs have the best running back group in football is because RB Coach Thomas Brown challenges them to play their best every day.  Turman wants to “help and contribute to the team in any way possible.”

With Nick Chubb working on complimentary parts of his game like pass protection and both tailbacks Keith Marshall and AJ Turman looking like they’re healthy entering the second half of fall camp, the Georgia Bulldogs have plenty to get excited about for the 2015 season.  Only 17 more days until it’s time to tee it up Between the Hedges!  Go Dawgs!
