RIGHT-FIELD: The Atlanta Braves signed veteran Nick Markakis to a 4 year, $44 million deal this past offseason to fill the void in right-field following the trade of Jason Heyward to the St. Louis Cardinals. Though a proverbial hole was left in the hearts of Braves fans everywhere, Markakis has done a remarkable job of replacing Heyward in right-field in 2015.
Currently hitting .298 with 2 home-runs and 44 RBI’s, Markakis’s lack of power has been a disappointment, but was to be expected following neck surgery in the offseason. He still provides excellent defense in right, and consistently makes contact at the plate. If the Atlanta Braves can acquire more hitters, Markakis becomes an even more valuable asset at the top of the lineup. Because he is signed long-term, Markakis won’t be going anywhere next season.
