Atlanta Braves Road Stretch Ends with Another Loss
By Adam Greene
The Atlanta Braves ended Sundays match-up against the Cubs the same way they started the road trip, with a loss. Bringing their record to 0-7 on the stretch.
The Cubs got all over Matt Wisler early, and never really looked back. An early moon shot to left field by Dexter Fowler and then a 2 run homer by Kris Bryant completely rattled Wisler in the 1st.

From there it didn’t get any better for the Braves, as Wisler allowed 4 more runs in the next two innings. Adonis Garcia also showed us why he’s not the long-term solution at 3rd base by committing several errors, and the arrival of Hector Olivera as early as Monday will be surely welcomed.

Having Hector Olivera in the lineup will be good for the Atlanta Braves this year. It will at least give him some playing time at 3rd for them and give the fans a glimpse at the future, and with all the recent dealings by John Hart, the future looks promising.
Matt Wisler’s campaign for the day early by the Cubs in the 3rd, which is puzzling because why would you take him off the mound after the Cubs are already up by 7 runs? At this point, you let Wisler stay in there to save some of your bullpen arms for tomorrow. But, that’s not the case thanks to the ever impressive wisdom and guidance of Fredi Gonzalez.
Ryan Lavarnway took away the shutout from the Cubs in the 5th inning with a home run to right field. And essentially that was the bulk of the action that we would see from the Atlanta Braves all day. Unless of course you’re considering giving up home run after home run to the Cubs all day action from the Braves.
Look, the Braves aren’t necessarily eliminated from playoff contention, but at this point it would take a collapse by the Mets on the scale of Greg Norman in 1996 at the Masters for the Braves to climb back into this. The Atlanta Braves could enact some revenge on the Colorado Rockies starting tomorrow, who swept them in Denver the series before the All-Star Break.

Both teams are struggling right now, and the Braves have been playing good baseball at home, so you have to like their chances in the series before the Yankees roll into town, possibly playing spoiler in their attempts to keep up the top spot in the AL East.
The Braves were not destined to win the game today, despite putting up a run in the 7th. The game ended with the Cubs up 9-3 over the Braves. Let’s hope that they can get things going tomorrow back home.
