Middle Infield. Guaymas, Mexico. Daniel Castro. 7. player. 17.

When thinking of “sexy” prospects, Daniel Castro is probably the last guy on that list. He has no power, isn’t particularly fast, and is merely competent with the glove. That being said, he’s been a consistent performer at every level and has a .279 career minor league average since he broke in as a 17-year-old in 2010.

Seeing Castro again in September is almost a given. He provides cover for Andrelton Simmons as a legitimate SS and allows Pedro Ciriaco to exclusively help the team out as a late innings pinch hitter. Castro has some major league value and, while he is nothing special, he can provide the Braves with another bench option that can play some Defense and pinch run, when needed.

The last month of the season will be an audition for Castro to see whether he will continue playing in Gwinnett or become a long-term bench option for the Braves.
