Raise your hand if you thought we would nearly be to the end of the season and still had no hint of when we were going to see Dian Toscano? Talk about a bizarre saga. Toscano signed with the Atlanta Braves in December of 2014 and was supposedly thought to compete for playing time in left field. Funny thing is, no one knew anything about him.

Visa issues kept him out of the United States until April and kept him from working out with the organization until late May. Crazy thing is, he still has not appeared in a competitive game at any level! Word is that he is working out in Orlando at the Braves training facility, but there is no word on when to expect him to begin playing.
What can we expect from this guy? Stats are slim when it comes to his playing time in the Cuban National Series. He played for five seasons and batted .300 with more walks than strikeouts but he has not played in the CNS since 2012. Very rarely does a player get signed by an MLB club that so little is known about. That fact makes Toscano all the more interesting.
His full impact remains uncertain until he gets a full spring training and some Minor League games under his belt. But if his visa issues are finally dealt with, it would add some needed intrigue to what could become a pretty dull September in Braves Country.
