Braves End Losing Streak, Defeat Rockies 5-3
The Atlanta Braves finally ended their week-long, 7-game losing streaking by defeating the Colorado Rockies Monday at Turner Field by a final score of 5-3.
The Atlanta Braves came home reeling, coming off of sweeps at the hands of the San Diego Padres and Chicago Cubs on the road. Having not found much success in recent days, it was crucial for the morale of the team to salvage a victory against the lowly Colorado Rockies.

The Rockies got off to a quick start with a leadoff home-run off the bat of former Georgia Tech Yellow Jacket Charlie Blackmon, making the score 1-0 in favor of Colorado. It didn’t take long for the Atlanta Braves to answer, as Jonny Gomes, batting cleanup in Fredi Gonzalez‘s lineup on Monday, hit a 2-run homer into the terrace level in the left-field bleachers off of Rockies’ starter Jorge De La Rosa, giving the Atlanta Braves a 2-1 lead.

The Rockies evened the score in the second inning, as first-baseman Ben Paulsen hit another solo shot off of Julio Teheran. Teheran allowed to solo home-runs in the first two innings of Monday’s game.
The Atlanta Braves reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the 4th inning, as Adonis Garcia hit a solo shot off of De La Rosa, making the score 3-2. Garcia’s days as the Braves’ starting third-baseman are numbered, as recently acquired Hector Olivera is expected to make his debut for the Atlanta Braves during this week’s home-stand.
Unexpectedly, the Atlanta Braves offense continued to perform well in Monday’s game, increasing their lead in the bottom of the 5th inning. Jonny Gomes recorded his third RBI of the game, singling home Cameron Maybin and making the score 4-2. Then in the bottom of the 6th, the hotting hitting Nick Markakis doubled home Pedro Ciriaco, giving the Braves a 5-2 lead.

Teheran pitched well on Monday, going 7.1 innings while allowing 3 earned runs off of 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out five. He was pulled in the 8th inning in favor of Ross Detwiler. After an error and another mental error by Adonis Garcia, Brandon Barnes singled to left, scoring Matt McBride to make the score 5-3. Charlie Blackmon attempted to score on the play, only to be gunned down by Michael Bourn at the plate to end the inning. Walt Weiss and the Rockies challenged the tag, but Blackmon was ruled out on a good throw by Bourn and an excellent tag by Christian Bethancourt.
Arodys Vizcaino closed the game out in the 9th to earn his to earn his 4th save. Nick Markakis recorded his 43rd multi-hit game of the season with 3 hits on Monday. Cameron Maybin had his 32nd multi-hit game of the season, recording two hits. Jonny Gomes and Pedro Ciriaco also added two-hits apiece. The Atlanta Braves will try to make it 2 wins in-a-row tomorrow night against the Rockies, as Mike Foltynewicz goes against Chad Bettis, with first pitch set for 7:10.
