Like so many guys now on the Atlanta Falcons offense, OT Tyler Polumbus has had experience playing in Kyle Shanahan’s ZBS from their time in Washington.  Polumbus came to Atlanta this offseason to contend for a reserve swing tackle spot to back up Jake Matthews and Ryan Schraeder on the outside.

With seven years on NFL experience, perhaps Polumbus has been a great addition in the classroom in helping guys figure out the ZBS because thus far it hasn’t translated on the field.  Polumbus’ looked particularly bad against the Tennessee Titans when T.J. Yates was under center.  The Titans’ pass rush is a far cry from what it once was under former HC Jeff Fisher, but Polumbus still struggled to hold the edge of the right side of the offensive line against the Titans in Preseason Week 1.

Since the second unit altogether wasn’t great against the New York Jets, I can’t really point fingers at anybody on the offense when Matt Ryan and the first team went out of the game.  I feel that Polumbus needs to have a strong game tomorrow night if he doesn’t want to get cut.

7th Round Draft Pick Jake Rodgers has looked pretty solid as a swing tackle as rookie, all things considered.  The Atlanta Falcons may opt for youth and molding ability over experience at swing tackle if Tyler Polumbus can’t cut it against the ‘Phins.  Injuries are a part of the game and I really hope somebody steps up as a strong rotational piece on the offensive line, regardless of if it’s Tyler Polumbus or not.
