Greyson Lambert to Start Week 1 Vs. ULM
By John Buhler
Greyson Lambert will be the Georgia Bulldogs starting quarterback when the ULM Warhawks come to Athens on Saturday.
Georgia Bulldogs Head Coach Mark Richt said it was real close, but he has decided to go with the Junior Transfer from the University of Virginia as the Dawgs Week 1 starter over Brice Ramsey. Richt is quoted as saying, “very, very close competition, still contested in my mind.”
The longer this quarterback competition between Greyson Lambert, Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta went on, more likely in my mind that the job was not going to Ramsey. Brice Ramsey was the presumed front-runner for the gig after last year’s RS Senior starter Hutson Mason graduated this past fall.

However, Ramsey did not command the job out of spring practice as Mark Richt had intended. UGA looked at bringing in a transfer quarterback after spring ball to further provide depth following Jacob Park’s transfer as well as more competition to bring out the best in the team’s two remaining scholarship quarterbacks: Brice Ramsey and Faton Bauta.

Dawn of the Dawg
Bauta was in the mix up until this final third intra-squad scrimmage when he played with the second string offense. One could have construed that as potentially an opportunity to see how well Faton could play without Georgia’s very best offensive players, but ultimately that was not the case.
Greyson Lambert and Brice Ramsey battled over reps with the first team for the last week, with it being to close to tell for most of it. Perhaps it’s the fact that Greyson Lambert picked up on a brand new offensive system so quickly that could give him the upward trajectory in the race that Ramsey has obviously lacked.
Lambert was in Charlottesville into July completing his undergraduate studies so that he could earn his UVA diploma and then promptly transfer to Athens to compete for the newly vacated starting quarterback spot. It sounded crazy a week ago, but I’m fine with Greyson Lambert winning the starting job over Ramsey and Bauta. If Lambert can prove that he won’t throw interceptions like he did for a mediocre UVA Cavaliers team and promptly hand the ball off to Nick Chubb and company, it think Dawg Nation will be okay with this decision by Mark Richt, too.

Mark Richt is not a man who is impulsive, rarely making a rash decision with regards to his players or coaching staff. We know that he had many sleepless nights praying about who to choose for the next starting quarterback job. I’m sure Richt got tired of waiting just like we have. He’s made up his mind and Greyson Lambert will lead the Dawgs Between the Hedges versus the ULM Warhawks on Saturday. Five Days, that’s all standing between us and another great year of Georgia Bulldogs Football.
