Atlanta Braves Drop 14th of 15, Lose 7-1 to Marlins
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Braves have now dropped 14 of their last 15 ball games, falling to the Miami Marlins 7-1 Tuesday night at Turner Field.
I’ve embraced the tailspin, spiraling out of control down here in Braves Country. Runs are more hard to come by for the Atlanta Braves offense than it is finding suitable drinking water in the Sahara Desert. The Atlanta Braves were almost shut out again if it were not for an A.J. Pierzynski RBI single, scoring Freddie Freeman in the bottom of the eighth inning.

It was an improved performance from last night in some respects. Sugar Ray Marimon pitched very well as the long arm tonight out of the bullpen. All three of his earned runs came off a Ryan Kelly meatball served right down the middle of the plate to 1B Justin Bour. That ball probably just landed in DeKalb County…now. Marimon looked great in his 3.1 innings in relief of Manny Banuelos.

Banuelos struggled tonight allowing 3 earned runs in 2.2 innings. Manny is on a very strict pitch count of around 55 (52 tonight) as he continues to recover from offseason Tommy John surgery. The conditioning of Manny Banuelos is still very much a huge concern for a possible fixture in future Atlanta Braves starting rotations.
The Hector Olivera debut came and went with little to no excitement. Olivera went 0-4 at the plate with one strikeout in his Major League debut. He didn’t make any errors at third base or looked overwhelmed at the plate batting sixth. He just kind of played baseball tonight.
Another player making his Atlanta Braves debut did shine. RHP Dan Burawa pitched two hitless innings, striking out 4 in his first appearance with the club. The Miami Marlins struggled to pick up the ball with his powerful sidearm action.
Outside of Arodys Vizcaino, the bullpen has been disastrous of late. Perhaps Marimon’s and Burawa’s outings tonight are positive signs for the rest of the season. Or is Ryan Kelly the epitome of the Atlanta Braves bullpen for the rest of the season with his 8.22 ERA?

We will get tomorrow’s game out of the way early when TBD takes the mound for the Braves against our third Marlins lefty in as many days. Atlanta has to win on get away day before traveling to Washington, DC to take on the rival Nationals who are fighting for their playoff lives.
The Atlanta Braves could play spoiler, but that would mean actually winning a road game. A win tomorrow afternoon means that Atlanta will only go 2-18 in their last 20 games, assuming a sweeping at the hand of the Nats this weekend. Go Braves!
