Georgia Bulldogs Approve Indoor Practice Facility, w/Images
By John Buhler
The Georgia Bulldogs will finally be getting their long overdue indoor practice facility as the University of Georgia Athletic Association approved of the proposed facility.
Georgia has long been without an indoor facility for so long that other Power 5 teams often point out during recruitment how UGA lacks one, claiming that a player can’t get better if he’s practice in adverse weather.
Well, it seems like we’re on the verge of scratching the Georgia Bulldogs football program of that list. The proposed facility is going to connect to Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, next to the Woodruff Practice Fields.

It would require the removal of the much-maligned Nalley Multipurpose Room and an additional 6,000 square feet of space. The renderings of the proposed facility look incredible and are state of the art. No doubt that the Athletic Association would build anything less than a first class facility. Then again the Nalley Multipurpose Room exists…

Dawn of the Dawg
Does having an indoor practice facility mean that the Georgia Bulldogs will practice inside all the time when the Athens weather isn’t perfect? No, sometimes players need the preparation for playing in in-climate weather.
Unless the Georgia Bulldogs envision themselves as the presumed SEC East Champions for eternity, the only game the Dawgs would play in annually that has air conditioning is in the annual SEC Championship in Atlanta. The Georgia Dome and Mercedes-Benz Stadium will feature indoor games.
What having an indoor practice facility allows is the team to not have to travel down State Route 316 to Flowery Branch and beg the Atlanta Falcons to use their facilities during torrential downpours. That happened once this fall camp. Most programs would find that embarrassing but it’s part of the Dawg Life, just not forever.
Construction of the proposed indoor practice facility will start once the 2015 Regular Season comes to an end. The University of Georgia Athletic Association still needs the okay from the University System Board of Regents to proceed. Since UGA is the flagship school in the system, I don’t see how the Regents prevent this from happening. Georgia Bulldogs football makes the University of Georgia System a bunch of money every fall.

This facility looks incredible. The best part is that Mark Richt and his coaching staff can now show prospective recruits the renderings of the new indoor facility if they have any questions about it. No longer does the Main Dawg have to explain to teenagers why the Georgia Bulldogs don’t have and don’t need an indoor practice facility. It’s on the way just like the 2015 season. Four days. That is all. Go Dawgs!
