Atlanta Braves Swept by Marlins, Lose 15th of 16
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Braves have now lost eight straight games after being swept by the Miami Marlins at home, following Wednesday afternoon’s 7-3 defeat.
Our Atlanta Braves have now lost 15 of their last 16 ball games and fall into 4th place in the National League East. This weekend doesn’t look promising for the club to end their losing ways, as the Braves will travel to the Nation’s Capital to take on a Washington Nationals team fighting for their playoff lives in a four-game set.

Williams Perez had to pitch today’s game following Mike Foltynewicz‘s placement on the Disabled List due to chest inflammation. Perez was in AAA Gwinnett for the last couple of days after a disastrous start against the New York Yankees Friday night.

Williams lasted 5 innings, allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 9 hits and 1 walk, recording no strikeouts. His ERA on the season is now well over 5.00 (5.65). Perez has not been the same pitcher since taking a liner off the right leg on the road against the Pittsburgh Pirates. I applaud his effort to come up and pitch for the Atlanta Braves on short notice, but the results very much need improvement if Williams Perez wants to make the Atlanta rotation next season.
The bullpen looked okay today, all things considered, with just one earned run allowed in 4 combined innings pitched. Edwin Jackson surrendered the only additional run in his two innings of work. Brandon Cunniff and Arodys Vizcaino combined for three strikeouts, allowing three hits in the last two innings of the game for the Atlanta Braves.
Vizcaino has been great in very limited action as the new Atlanta closer, boasting an 0.44 ERA. The challenge has been in getting to him in save situations in the ninth inning. Since those opportunities are likely not coming in the remaining month plus of the 2015 season, I would like to see Arodys pitch more than he has been for the Atlanta Braves.

Offensively, Atlanta strung together 3 runs on 5 hits. Nick Swisher had a pair and Hector Olivera had his first Major League hit with the Atlanta Braves, an 2-RBI double in the bottom of the third inning. Atlanta’s three runs all came in the 3rd inning and actually had a 3-2 at one point in the game.
The Atlanta Braves’ late season swoon is beginning to turn into a Rip Van Winkle slumber. With seven road games on the slate and the Braves’ complete ineptitude away from Turner Field, assume the losing ways to continue. Go Braves!
