Atlanta Braves Demolished by Nats 15-1, Lose 16th of 17.
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Braves just keep on losing, as the Washington Nationals demolish the club 15-1 Thursday night.
Atlanta has lost 9 straight ball games, 10 straight on the road, and 16 of their last 17 games. The Braves have won a measly two games away from Turner Field since the All-Star Break. Since getaway day on July 7th against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Atlanta Braves are an abysmal 2-23 in their last 25 road games. The Atlanta Braves are officially the worst team in baseball.

Two hits. That was it for the Atlanta Braves tonight. Washington scored at least a run in six of their eight trips to the plate tonight. Matt Wisler lasted 1.2 innings in his most recent start, allowing 7 earned runs. The 22-year old rookie’s ERA on the season is nearly 6.00 (5.97).

All the confidence he showed in his first couple of starts has completely evaporated. When Ryan Kelly and his 7.00 ERA are pitching in the 3rd inning, something has gone horribly wrong for the Atlanta Braves’ pitching staff.
Peter Moylan had the best ERA of any of the eight pitchers Fredi Gonzalez used tonight with a 5.06 mark on the year. Atlanta used five pitchers in the first five innings. This pitching staff for the Atlanta Braves is a complete disaster. The offense cannot manufacture runs anymore. This team could very well lose 100 ball games this year. At one point this was a .500 ball club (42-42). Boy, is this team difficult to watch .
At 54-80, the Atlanta Braves are only one game ahead of the worst team in baseball, record-wise, the Philadelphia Phillies. Could the Atlanta Braves seriously have the first overall pick in the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft? I feel like John Hart has taken a page from Philadelphia 76ers GM Sam Hinkie’s book on ‘hyper-tanking’.
Then again on paper, this doesn’t look like a team that should tank. There is no leadership coming from the clubhouse. How many more games do we have to tolerate Fredi Gonzalez and this perpetual torture? Matt Wisler is in complete disarray and he is the main piece Atlanta acquired for superstar closer Craig Kimbrel. The organization cannot afford to ruin a pitcher of Wisler’s promise.

I really don’t know when the Atlanta Braves are going to win again. They still have three more with the Nationals in DC and then a three-game set with the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. I will not call Philly ‘lowly’ anymore because I’m certain they will take at least two of three from our Atlanta Braves.
We had as many hits as the Spin Doctors did in the 1990’s tonight. Our players are carrying around a pocket full of kryptonite everywhere they go. Perhaps it is an explanation to the utter ineptitude we’ve seen of late. Go Braves! Just go ahead now!
