Georgia Bulldogs Take Care of ULM 51-14 in Week 1
By John Buhler
The Georgia Bulldogs defeated the ULM Warhawks in the 2015 Season Opener 51-14. The game ended early after a second lightning delay with 9:54 remaining in the 4th Quarter.
Your Georgia Bulldogs took care of business in their home opener versus Louisiana-Monroe, with a 51-14 victory Saturday afternoon. The running game looked incredible today, with a combined 243 yards on the ground on 38 carries for a YPC of 6.4. In the passing, UGA played efficiently, completing 10-14 passes for 192 yards and no interceptions.

Nick Chubb extended his 100 yards per game streak to 9 games, with 120 yards on 16 carries for 2 touchdowns, averaging an outstanding 7.5 yards per rush. He didn’t have a Heisman moment per se, but Chubb continue to prove that he is undoubtedly the best tailback in the country with his Week 1 performance over ULM.

Dawn of the Dawg
Greyson Lambert had a strong first game for the Georgia Bulldogs. The UVA transfer QB was 8-12 for 144 yards and 2 TD strikes in his first game Between the Hedges. I thought he game managed very well for the most part, though he did make some mental errors at the start of the third quarter. Brice Ramsey looked pretty good in limited action, going 2-2 for 51 yards and a screen touchdown pass to Sony Michel.
In my mind, outside of Nick Chubb of course, three players on the Dawgs stood out with their play in Week 1. Keith Marshall looks as good as new and carried the rock like the seasoned veteran that he is. Marshall rushed the ball 10 times for 73 yards and 2 scores. Dawg Nation was in full support of this former 5-star who has battled his way back from serious leg injuries in his time in Athens.
Lorenzo Carter was in the middle of everything, both on defense and in special teams against ULM. Carter seemingly on every play in the first half had ULM QB Garrett Smith on the ground because of his undeniable pass rush. Lorenzo heavily effected the game with his punt blocking attempts. Having Leonard Floyd able to play multiple positions (ILB mostly today) allows Carter to rarely leave the field for the Dawgs.
In the Georgia Bulldogs’ secondary Malkom Parrish was all over the field with tremendous tenacity for getting after the ball carrier. He hit hard all game, whether it was up on the line of scrimmage or right in front of the first down marker. Though Aaron Davis had a great interception off of Smith, I though that Parrish played the best game of anybody in the defensive backfield on UGA.

The return game for Georgia was strong even without 2nd Team All-SEC Isaiah McKenzie back returning kicks. Both Reggie Davis and Terry Godwin filled in nicely for the injured I-Mac, proving that UGA does have depth in the return game in 2015.
The only two areas of concern I had in this home opener were in the secondary and on the offensive line. Jeremy Pruitt is perhaps still trying to figure out his defensive backfield’s hierarchy, as there were two drives that the secondary looked sloppy against first-time starting QB Garrett Smith.
Smith and WR Rashon Caeser had a great connection today, resulting in the Warhawks’ two touchdown drives. It seemed like the secondary relied too much on the front seven to do the heavy lifting for them and got burned a few times shortly before half time. Expect Pruitt to make the adjustments before SEC play next week versus Vanderbilt.
Up front, I felt like the offensive line on the left side struggled with some inconsistencies. They were able to get away with it against a non-Power 5 opponent at home, but there were a few too many quarterback hurries for my liking.

There were also a handful of plays that I saw the left side not finish the drill in run blocking. This isn’t overly surprising since Isaiah Wynn is a new starter and Brandon Kublanow is at a new position. However, that side of the line needs to improve before South Carolina comes to town for sure.
Overall, Georgia looked like a Top 10 team in the country with their performance over the ULM Warhawks. There is still work that the team needs to put in before Conference Play, but I still think UGA is the team that will represent the SEC East in the SEC Championship in Atlanta in December. Go Dawgs!
