RELIEF PITCHING
Notable Free Agents: Neftali Feliz, Brad Ziegler, Antonio Bastardo, Tony Sipp, Eric O’Flaherty, Tyler Clippard, and Brandon League (vesting option).
I have concerns about signing free agent bullpen pitchers. There are significantly more people that can pitch a single inning than can start and pitch 6-7 innings. Relievers are easier to replace and easier to find, especially when you have one of the deepest pitching crops in baseball.
There are plenty of relief pitchers available, and with the Atlanta Braves farm system, there should be enough arms to fill the gaps throughout the season. The above listed free agents are those that stand out to me as productive bullpen arms that will cost less than their closer counterparts OR they are guys looking to reclaim former glory and could be had at a bargain price.
Former Brave Eric O’Flaherty and former Braves farmhand Neftali Feliz could both pair up with Roger McDowell in spring and look to recapture a glimpse of their former selves. Other guys might be worth signing, but only at a reasonable price. Don’t expect the Braves to spend significant money on relievers. Instead, they will look in-house or collect via trade.
