EFFECTIVELY PASSING THE BALL

Because the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets utilize the triple option, throwing the ball is not the emphasis of the offense. However, over the past two games, we have seen quarterback Justin Thomas’s ability to pass the ball, keeping the defense honest while adding another layer to the Ramblin’ Wreck’s offensive attack.

On Saturday against Tulane, Justin Thomas passed for 97 yards and two touchdowns to Michael Summers and Qua Searcy, while backup QB Matthew Jordan added another 35 yard touchdown pass to Taquon Marshall. Last season, we didn’t see the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets throw the ball much, but so far in 2015, it seems that Head Coach Paul Johnson has given his quarterbacks more freedom to read the defenses and exploit mismatches.

The Wide Receiving corps is surprisingly deep for the Jackets this season, while the A-backs and B-backs are also capable of catching the ball. With so many options (pardon the pun) on the field for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, the offensive opportunities look bountiful this season.
