Cameron Maybin Back in Braves’ Lineup Vs. Jays
By John Buhler
Cameron Maybin will start tonight for the Atlanta Braves after missing nine straight starts due to a corneal abrasion suffered in Washington, DC.
According to Kevin McAlpin of 680 The Fan, Cameron Maybin will get the start tonight for the Atlanta Braves against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Maybin missed time in the Braves’ lineup due to lingering concerns with his eye. Cameron Maybin has not started a game for the Braves since September 5th in the third game of the road series with the Washington Nationals.

Cameron has since only had two pinch hit appearances, Sunday in the series finale with the New York Mets and last night against Toronto. Atlanta welcomes back their starting centerfielder who is still in the midst of his best season as a Major Leaguer.

Though Cameron Maybin’s bat has cooled off in the last month (.167/.262/.204 in the last 28 days), he will hit sixth behind LF Nick Swisher and ahead of last night’s hero SS Andrelton Simmons. Fredi Gonzalez has more flexibility now with his outfielders.
In Maybin’s absence, both players acquired from the Cleveland Indians trade involving 3B Chris Johnson, LF/1B Nick Swisher and OF Michael Bourn have had to play together in the outfield. Swisher has been able to turn it around in Atlanta, hitting .230 but with a great .367 on base percentage. Bourn has struggled in his return to Atlanta, hitting only .176 and getting on base just 26.5%percent of the time.
Atlanta has found value in Nick Swisher, with his switch hitting, high OBP and ability to play both first base and left field. Perhaps he has earned a spring training invite with the Atlanta Braves next season, with his improved 33 game Atlanta sample size.

Most importantly, Cameron Maybin is back in the Atlanta Braves lineup, looking to build on what has already been a career year for him. Cameron Maybin set career highs in home runs (10) and RBI’s (52), tied a career high in walks (44), and is on pace to set new highs in average and on-base percentage (.267/.361).
Maybin loves playing for the Atlanta Braves and hustles every night playing for his region’s team (he’s from Asheville, NC). With the Atlanta Braves already eliminated from playoff contention and only 17 games remaining in 2015, it’s nice to have a familiar face back in the lineup with the return of Cameron Maybin.
