Part of what has made the defense of the Georgia Bulldogs look so dominant in the first two weeks has been its play up front. NT Chris Mayes has had two great games on the inside against both ULM and Vanderbilt. I think Mayes will again contribute at a high level against South Carolina on Saturday.

His play at the nose has given UGA more bite that we initially thought in the front seven. We knew the LB corps was top-notch, but the defensive line for Georgia has been nearly as dominating in the first two weeks.
South Carolina will likely run the football more than normal against UGA to account for a backup quarterback being under center in Connor Mitch’s absence. So that means Chris Mayes will have to lead by example and play a fast and physical game up front in run stoppage.
I see Chris Mayes making a few plays himself, possibly two tackles for loss, maybe even a forced fumble sack against Perry Orth. But where I believe Mayes makes the biggest difference is in commanding a double team that will allow the Law Firm at Outside Linebacker to constantly make life difficult for Orth and the Gamecocks in the pocket. To me, Mayes is a difference maker in Week 3 on the defensive side of the football.
