If UGA wants to have a more balanced offense on Saturday, it’s going to have to start with RS Senior Malcolm Mitchell in the receiving corps. In Week 1 versus ULM, Mitchell showed Dawg Nation that he is more than just a vertical threat at this point in his career, with some great possession receptions in the mid-range passing game.

While I do expect guys like Isaiah McKenzie, Terry Godwin, and Sony Michel to make plays in space when the ball is in their hand, UGA needs to have some bite in the second layer of USC’s defense. The tight end play has not been the focal point of the passing attack like I imagined. Maybe the receivers will have to carry the weight in the passing game this year?
Vanderbilt used a lot of man coverage in the middle of the field and UGA wasn’t able to get open all that often on third down. I like Malcolm Mitchell to help buck that trend in tomorrow night’s game.
I can see Mitchell having close to 100 yards receiving and a pivotal touchdown in the Border War with USC. A few early receptions in space should open up the field for QB Greyson Lambert to spread the football all across the gridiron in this one.
