As expected, the Vanderbilt Commodores got into the win column in Week 3 of the 2015 season, knocking off the Austin Peay Governors at home, 47-7. QB Johnny McCrary looked great, completing 28-33 passing for 368 yards and 2 touchdowns. RB Ralph Webb got in the end zone twice with 54 yards on 15 carries.

Where Vandy won this game was with their improving defense, forcing the Governors to commit two turnovers and only gain 144 yards of offensive. I realize that VU is in a different class than Austin Peay, but you had to like Vandy’s ability to bounce back after two tough home losses to get their first win in 2015.

The problem with Vanderbilt is that they are about to play their toughest game of the season. The ‘Dores will travel to Oxford to face their cross-divisional rival Ole Miss, the number three team in the country. Though Vandy has almost no chance in this rivalry game, maybe VU can play like they did in Week 3 and at least keep it interesting in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday night. Vanderbilt will play Ole Miss at 7PM ET on ESPNU.

If you’re not concerned about the 2015 South Carolina Gamecocks entering Week 4, you very much should be. USC looked completely outmatched by their biggest SEC rival, the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 3 at Sanford Stadium. All USC did was let the Dawgs get into the end zone, 7 times!

Offensively, the Gamecocks struggled to move it through the air with only 84 yards passing. The only continuity they had against Jeremy Pruitt’s defense was on designed runs by 3rd QB Lorenzo Nunez. Steve Spurrier had no answer for UGA in this game and didn’t have any reason to throw his visor in this one. South Carolina is not a good football team in 2015 and are very likely on the outside looking in at a bowl game in 2015.

Their schedule is brutal for the rest of 2015. While they get UCF at home this week, South Carolina still has LSU, Tennessee, Missouri, Texas A&M, and Clemson on their slate. If USC can’t beat Vanderbilt in the middle of October, South Carolina might go 0-for in Conference Play this year. South Carolina will play UCF at home at Noon on ESPNU.
