Atlanta Braves Top Mets 6-2 in Big Apple
By John Buhler
The Atlanta Braves take the second game of their road series with the New York Mets, 6-2 Tuesday night. Matt Wisler won his 6th game of the season.
Matt Wisler seems to pitch his best versus the Atlanta Braves’ NL East rival New York Mets in his starts. Wisler moves to 6-8 on the year with a solid seven inning performance in his start. Matt had eight strikeouts, two earned runs, allowed five hits, and walked one batter in his gem of a ball game.

Though David Wright hit a solo shot off Wisler early in the game, Matt had to composure to bounce back and pitch wonderfully, allowing the bullpen only two innings of combined work tonight. Peter Moylan allowed the lone hit and Matt Marksberry surrendered the only free pass in the final two frames of the ball game for the Atlanta Braves.

The Braves provided Matt Wisler six runs of support tonight on nine hits. Though no member of the Atlanta Braves had a two-hit night, Atlanta did have a pair of home runs in spacious Citi Field Tuesday night. Jace Peterson had a solo shot off Mets spot starter Logan Verrett in the fifth inning. Hector Olivera followed suit with a three-run blast off Verrett as well in later in the fifth.
Verrett started for the Mets tonight in an effort to spare ace Matt Harvey from unneeded innings before the NL Postseason begins. Dr. James Andrews advised Harvey to only pitch a maximum of 180 innings in 2015, after missing all of last year with Tommy John surgery.

New York could afford to lose this game against the Atlanta Braves as the Mets’ magic number falls to six to win the NL East, after the Washington Nationals dropped a game their AL rival Baltimore, 4-1. It seems hard to grasp but the New York Mets are about to win the division a week before the season ends. They’ve played great ball most of the year, while the other four teams in the division have been pedestrian most of the time.
The Atlanta Braves have an opportunity to win a rare road series against their superior division rival in the New York Mets. Atlanta only needs to win 2 more games in the remaining 10 on the slate to not become a 100 loss team in 2015. You have to appreciate the little things, I guess. Two home runs and a strong start from Matt Wisler were a pleasant surprise in the Atlanta Braves victory tonight. Go Braves!
