Georgia Bulldogs Host FCS Southern Jaguars

The Georgia Bulldogs, ranked number seven in the country, will host the Southern Jaguars of the FCS, Between the Hedges at noon today. The telecast will be on the SEC Network.

Mark Richt‘s Georgia Bulldogs will have a nice tune up game this afternoon against the Southern University Jaguars. Richt has said that he likes to schedule FCS opponents like Southern to give the athletic programs of those schools a much-needed boost financially. It also gives those players an opportunity to play in football cathedrals like that of Sanford Stadium here in Athens, Georgia.

Though the Georgia Bulldogs are undoubtedly looking ahead to their Week 5 matchup with the Alabama Crimson Tide Between the Hedges on October 3rd, UGA still has to take care of business against a strong offense of a 2-1 Southern Jaguars team.

Ideally, Richt will play his best players minimally to conserve their health for a huge SEC game next week, but don’t expect him to not play his starters somewhat in this game. The three biggest things I’m watching in this game are as follows: Will Nick Chubb continue his consecutive 100 yards rushing streak to 12 in this game? Can Greyson Lambert build on his record-setting performance from last week? And can the Georgia Bulldogs hang half a hundred on another team at home this week?

My answer to all three questions is a simple three-letter word: yes. Yes, Nick Chubb will rush for over 100 yards and he’ll do it on around 12 carries before exiting the ball game. Greyson Lambert will look solid again, throwing for around 200 yards for a pair of touchdowns and complete about 65% of his pass attempts. The Georgia Bulldogs will score at least fifty points in their Week 4 game with the Southern Jaguars.

  • While many will tune out this game at halftime with the lead likely comfortably in the Dawgs favor, what I always find interesting in these games is how the backup players perform in a real game. This is where the future stars of our program will probably first show us something playing Between the Hedges.

I’m eager to see which true freshman has a breakout performance in Week 4 and can become a huge part of the latter two-thirds of UGA’s 2015 season. Will it be WR Terry Godwin? Or NT Trent Thompson? Will DB Rico McGraw shine in the secondary? Or will LB Roquan Smith do a bit of everything in the second half for the Georgia Bulldogs.

It’s Game Day in the Classic City. If you can’t make it Between the Hedges, you can watch the game on the SEC Network at Noon today. Go Dawgs!
